Mountains And Prophecies

🗻Mountains  And Prophecies 🎤

This article is not written to bring down any faith, ministry, or to discourage anyone from listening to God’s prophets. Rather, it is written to encourage discernment, healing, and a deeper dependence on God.

Not all prophecies are from God. Some are spoken out of selfish motives, some out of fear, and some truly come from God. This particular experience, though painful, helped my faith and drew me closer to God.

There is a Yoruba proverb that says, “Ori tó máa jẹ́ ìkọ́,”  meaning "the head destined to take a knock will always find it".  Looking back, I understand that God was teaching me discernment through my journey.

The Fear That Followed Prophecies

After my earlier experience with a prophetess  as shared in a previous article titled -Breaking Free From Mind Slavery,
I encountered another prophetess , one who claimed to see visions and give prophecies. The things she said were frightening 😰. I succumbed immediately, not because I believed deeply, but because I was ruled by fear.

Her prophecies were always dark and threatening. Nothing hopeful. Nothing redemptive. It was always do or die—listen or perish. Over time, it became a means of extortion.

“Bring money for this, or your village people will kill you.”

“Do this urgently, or something terrible will happen.”

Fear became my daily companion.

📖 2 Timothy 1:7

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

A Step Back Toward Light

Eventually, I joined an interdenominational prayer meeting that held every Tuesday morning. At least my heart felt reassured—I hadn’t completely wandered away. I was still praying. Still seeking God. Even though I secretly still had a prophetess “behind.”

Then convention was approaching—titled “Accelerated Promotion.”

Normally, I attend from Monday and stay till Sunday. I informed the prophetess that I would be going to camp.

She told me not to go.

I didn’t listen.

Later that evening, she sent someone to tell me she was on the mountain and warned again:

“Do not go. If you go, you will not return.”

I was shocked 😱. Fear overwhelmed me. I questioned my sanity. Sleep left me. Yet, missing convention was never an option.

📖 Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”

God Answered Loudly

With fear still gripping me, I went to the Tuesday interdenominational prayer meeting. Every prayer point felt like it was directed at me.

The first prayer was:

“Any man or woman on a mountain destabilizing your life day and night shall not rest.”

(And remember—the prophetess claimed she was on the mountain.)

The second prayer:

“Anyone on the mountaintop making enchantments against me, it shall come to nothing.”

Then the pastor declared:

“Therefore no enchantment shall be effective against the house of Jacob.”

And it occurred to me in the mist of the prayers that my name is Maria Jacobs.

📖 Numbers 23:23

“Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, nor divination against Israel.”

I prayed like my life depended on it and of course  at that point, it truly felt like it did, because of the prophecy and I really wanted to attend the convention too.

After the prayers, I spoke with the man of God. He encouraged me to go for the convention without fear.

The Journey and the Breakthrough

I went home and packed. On the bus to camp, fear still whispered. I imagined escape routes, accident scenarios, even though everyone on the bus was heading straight to camp from Ogba.

But we arrived—accident-free. No incident. No fear fulfilled.

And in that moment, I knew:

God is not mocked.

📖 Lamentations 3:37

“Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?”

Accelerated Promotion Indeed

That convention became one of the most powerful moments of my walk with God. I never wanted to leave His presence. I was so filled that I feared sinning—not out of fear, but out of love and reverence.

When I returned, people noticed the change. The boldness. The clarity. The peace.

That season marked a turning point. I knew the Holy Spirit was working deeply in me—and till today, that boldness remains.

📖 John 8:36

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

A Gentle Reflection

God does not use fear to control His children.

He does not threaten us into obedience.

His voice brings conviction, clarity, peace, even when it corrects.

If you are reading this and living under fear-driven prophecies, pause. Pray. Return to God Himself.

The mountain is not higher than God.

No voice is louder than His truth
