Showing Pain Through A Smile

There is a kind of pain that does not announce itself. It doesn't always come with tears. It doesn't always look like someone falling apart. Sometimes it wears a smile. Sometimes it laughs at the right moments, greets everyone warmly, serves faithfully, and carries on as though everything is fine. Yet beneath that smile is a heart fighting battles no one can see. Many of us have become experts at hiding our pain. We have learned how to smile through disappointment, laugh through heartbreak, and encourage others while quietly wondering who will notice that we are hurting too. A smile can be genuine, but it can also become a mask. Not because someone wants to deceive others, but because explaining the pain feels exhausting. Sometimes it is easier to say, "I'm fine," than to find the words to describe what is happening inside. Some people smile because they do not want to worry their loved ones. Some smile because they fear being misunderstood. Some smile because the...

The Therapy

There was a season in my life when I reached one of the lowest points I had ever known. There were days when I smiled on the outside, but inside, I was exhausted. My mind was crowded with worries, my heart was heavy with questions, and the future felt uncertain. There were moments when I didn't even know how to pray. I believed in God, yet I struggled to find the words. My emotions seemed louder than my voice. Then, something beautiful happened. Music became my therapist. Not because music replaced God, but because God used music to reach places in my heart that words could not. Sometimes I would wake up with a worship song already playing in my mind. Other times, while listening to a hymn or a worship song, I would suddenly find myself crying—not tears of hopelessness, but tears of release. It was as though every lyric became a prayer I couldn't speak myself. The songs reminded me of God's promises when my own thoughts were trying to convince me otherwise. When fear whispe...

Courage In The Spotlight

Courage in the Spotlight: Lessons from Facing an Audience 🎤 🌸 I can still remember the very first time I faced an audience—it was at the tender age of eight. I was asked to sing the hymn, “My Faith Looks Up to Thee.” At that time, I didn’t fully understand what it meant to sing before a crowd. I was nervous, shy, and unsure if my little voice could be heard. But even then, the song spoke to me. The words were simple, yet powerful: “My little faith looks up to Thee.” Little did I know, those words would stick with me for life. That hymn wasn’t just about singing in front of people—it was about surrender, courage, and looking beyond myself. As I grew older, I reflected on that first experience and realized what it had truly taught me. The little faith I had at eight was looking up to the Lamb of Calvary—Jesus—who faced the greatest stage of all: the cross. He was surrounded by a crowd, mocked and beaten, yet He never wavered. He never feared being hanged on a tree, because He knew He w...

Washing The Feet 👣

Washing the Feet 👣 In God’s vineyard, especially as a leader, we are entrusted with responsibilities that often go beyond what we expect or even feel ready for. Leadership in the kingdom of God is not about titles, positions, or recognition — it is about service. Regardless of who we are or what title we carry, we are all called to serve. We are called to help draw souls back to Christ, not just through our words, but through our actions, our attitude, and our willingness to do even the smallest tasks with a sincere heart. It may sound surprising, but souls can still feel lost even within the church. People come seeking love, guidance, and truth, yet sometimes what they encounter is distance, pride, or indifference. That, however, is a conversation for another day. On this particular day, the atmosphere was intense with activity. Everyone was busy — not just busy, but extremely busy. If there were a stronger word for it, that would have been the perfect description. There were ta...

Faithful Hunger

Faithful Hunger I remember a season in my life when I was utterly confused about what to do. The struggles stretched on, compounded by debts and loans that seemed impossible to repay. Yet, through it all, I never left God’s service. Honestly, I didn’t know why I continued amidst such sacrifice. Was it my upbringing? Was it hunger? Or perhaps a genuine passion for the things of God? One day, an opportunity arose in the children’s department at church. A decoration project needed to be done, but I didn’t even have a single naira to contribute. Yet craft had always been my passion. I stepped out in faith and asked if I could handle the project,   "if someone could provide the materials, I would do it freely". To my surprise, I was given some money. I went to a local market , got the materials, and poured my heart into the work. There is something about joy and passion that cannot be faked. I worked wholeheartedly, and the decorations turned out beautifully. People admired the wo...

Awake… for the Sake of Tomorrow

Awake… for the Sake of Tomorrow One quiet evening, my two daughters and I were singing a song by TY Bello — “Awake sleeping soldiers, for the sake of the children…” It was one of those moments that felt ordinary at first, yet carried a weight I didn’t immediately recognize. As we sang, my first daughter playfully replaced the lyrics with my younger daughter’s name and sang: “Awake oh Aliza, for the sake of tomorrow, for the sake of the school…” We laughed. It sounded innocent, lighthearted. But long after the song faded, the words stayed with me. They echoed in my thoughts. I kept returning to them, quietly pondering, until I realized they were more than playful words — they were a message speaking directly to me. And slowly, a truth dawned. Every one of us wakes up each day for a reason. Sometimes that reason is survival. Sometimes responsibility. Sometimes obligation. Sometimes hope. Even on days when it is inconvenient, even when strength feels thin, we still rise. We wake ev...

The Goodness Of God In The Rejection

The Goodness of God in Rejection  All Things Are Working for Good Dear Reader, For a long time, I believed that the goodness of God was only visible in acceptance—in open doors, answered prayers, applause, and clear yeses. I thought God’s goodness looked like things working out smoothly, like being chosen, understood, celebrated, and affirmed by people. In my mind, favor meant ease, and blessing meant approval. But life has a way of teaching us deeper truths , truths that cannot be learned in comfort. I have learned that the goodness of God is also found in rejection. Rejection has a way of shaking the foundations of our faith. It makes us question everything, our worth, our calling, our prayers, even our ability to hear God clearly. Sometimes it comes quietly, through silence and neglect. Other times, it comes loudly, through disappointment and painful no’s. Either way, it leaves wounds, confusion, and unanswered questions. It can feel like abandonment. It can feel like God has st...

Mountains And Prophecies

🗻Mountains  And Prophecies 🎤 This article is not written to bring down any faith, ministry, or to discourage anyone from listening to God’s prophets. Rather, it is written to encourage discernment, healing, and a deeper dependence on God. Not all prophecies are from God. Some are spoken out of selfish motives, some out of fear, and some truly come from God. This particular experience, though painful, helped my faith and drew me closer to God. There is a Yoruba proverb that says, “Ori tó máa jẹ́ ìkọ́,”  meaning "the head destined to take a knock will always find it".  Looking back, I understand that God was teaching me discernment through my journey. The Fear That Followed Prophecies After my earlier experience with a prophetess  as shared in a previous article titled - Breaking Free From Mind Slavery,       I encountered another prophetess , one who claimed to see visions and give prophecies. The things she said were frightening 😰. I succumbed ...

⛓️Breaking Free From Mind Slavery

⛓️Breaking Free From Mind Slavery ⛓️ A Phase, Not a Forgetting This write-up is not to cause violence, offend anyone, or bring down any faith. It is written to encourage anyone walking through a difficult season to understand this truth: you have not been forgotten; you are only in a phase of life. 📖 Habakkuk 2:3 “For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come.” Often as Christians, we drift , not always out of rebellion, but out of pressure, fear, and the desire to survive. Scripture gently warns us: 📖 1 Corinthians 10:12 “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” When Things Looked Good but Felt Empty Immediately after leaving technical school, I opened a shop, and business was booming. Customers came in, work increased, and money flowed. Yet with growth came responsibility. People depended on me, and the pressure became heavy. Even though income increased, it never felt enough to meet all the needs stari...

👂Listening To God In Quiet And Unexpected ways

👂Listening To Him in Quiet and Unexpected Ways👂 Most times,  God speaks to us in ways that are gentle and unexpected. We hear Him through dreams, conversations, strong inner promptings , which I later understood to be the voice of the Holy Spirit , and sometimes through activities we never imagined could carry divine meaning. 📖 Job 33:14–15 “For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night…” My first clear encounter with hearing from God began when I was about ten years old. The First Dream I had a dream in the afternoon , not scary at first, but it gradually became unsettling. In the dream, I saw my mother standing beside an unidentified woman. They were both dressed in white, and there was an atmosphere of mourning around them. At that age, I didn’t know what to make of it. I didn’t pray about it or try to cancel it. I only assumed it was a nightmare , or perhaps an afternoon dream. A week later, I jokingly asked m...

Beyond Beauty:The Measure Of Life

Beyond Beauty:The Measure Of Life What Will Remain When You Are Gone? Some years ago, I attended two burial ceremonies , two women, two different days, two very different legacies. What stayed with me was not their ages, their outfits, or the size of the crowd. It was what people could , or could not , say when given the chance to speak. At the first burial, only four people were invited to share. The first speaker cried deeply and said, “I will miss mummy.” Then she struggled, paused, and added that the woman was beautiful… and that people should avoid making her angry because she could be destructive. That was all. The next speaker stood up, clearly overwhelmed, but words failed her. She repeated that she would miss her. The third spoke about appearance, how the woman dressed well, matched her clothes from head to toe, and looked elegant. Then she ended with, “I will miss her.” And that was it. A month later, I attended another burial. Again, the anchor invited people to speak—but th...

Was It Coincidence… or Grace?

Was It Coincidence… or Grace? There are moments in life that quietly interrupt our routines,  moments that do not come with loud announcements or dramatic signs, yet leave a lasting imprint on the heart.  They are not immediately labeled as miracles. They don’t feel extraordinary in the moment. But long after they pass, they return to us as questions we cannot ignore. Moments that make you pause and wonder. Moments that ask gently, Was that coincidence… or grace? One morning, I was on my way to work and boarded a bus as usual. Nothing felt unusual. My thoughts were ordinary, my movements familiar. There was no sense of danger, no spiritual alert, no internal warning. Then suddenly , without deep thought or urgency,   I remembered I needed to get some drugs. It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t something I had been thinking about earlier. I simply stood up and alighted at a bus stop just before my usual stop. I got what I needed and decided to trek home since it wasn’t far. M...

History Repeating Itself

History Repeating Itself While preparing for Christmas activities here and there, a conversation I once had with my husband returned to my heart. I remember saying to him, “Please, do not let history repeat itself.” The previous year, I had been grateful to God, but not in the way I truly ought to have been, because of the clothes I wore, please don't get me wrong  "nothing can separate us from the love of Christ"(Romans 8:39). Yet that first Sunday of the year, something within me felt unsettled. It wasn’t rebellion, I had really wanted us to dress like a family. It was a quiet nudge in my spirit ,be more intentional. So this time, I spoke up. I asked him to do the needful early , to give the designer enough time. He listened. And when the outfit was ready, it was beautiful. But more than the outfit, what stayed with me was this simple truth: intentionality changes outcomes. That moment opened my eyes. Year in, year out, we all make plans. We dream. We hope. We say, “Thi...

What are you grateful for

🌿 What Are You Grateful For? 🌿 During one of our Sunday School sessions, a simple but powerful question was asked: “What are you grateful for?” The answers came gently. One person said she was grateful for family, the comfort of calling a sibling and hearing, “How are you doing?” She reflected further and said that some families have only one child, who may be grateful for aunties and uncles to lean on, unlike children in motherless homes who have no one to hold onto at all. As she spoke, my heart began to search inward. I thought about my health. From my teenage years, I have lived with PCOS. It hasn’t always been easy. There were moments of pain, fear, and uncertainty. Yet I am deeply grateful ,because every time a crisis came, God gave me strength to overcome it. I am standing, Still moving forward and hopeful. Thankful for my daughter also who has Micenteric Adenitis and she is still standing too, even with the stress that comes with that also.  Then my pastor shared somethin...

Happy New year“From Resolutions to Transformation: Discover Who You Are in Christ

Your New Year Doesn’t Change You-Discovery Does.  Every New Year, every new month, comes with hope. People write resolutions, make plans, and dream of fresh starts. But often, weeks later, we quietly ask ourselves: "Why am I still the same?" The truth is simple: a new calendar doesn’t transform a life; discovering who you are does. A calendar reminds you of the days passing. Resolutions push you to act. But neither tells you your purpose, your calling, or your identity in Christ. Many lifestyle changes fail because they are forced. We try to change habits without addressing the heart. We pursue discipline without clarity. We chase consistency without understanding who we are. That is why motivation fades and growth feels exhausting. Scripture says: “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”  2 Corinthians 5:17 note, it doesn’t say if you enter a new year, or if you write new goals. Transformation begins with...

Bloom where you are planted

🌸 Bloom Where You Are Planted 🌸 There is a quiet wisdom in the phrase “Bloom where you are planted.” It does not deny hardship, nor does it pretend that every soil is kind. Instead, it reminds us that God’s purpose is not suspended because our environment is uncomfortable, unfamiliar, or imperfect. 📖 Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Many times, we pray for change—new places, new seasons, new people—believing that fruitfulness lives somewhere else. But often, God begins His work right where we are, in the place we least expect growth. 📖 Psalm 1:3 “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season.” Blooming does not mean life is easy. Flowers still face heat, rain, storms, and pressure beneath the soil before beauty ever shows. Growth happens quietly, invisibly, patiently. Sometimes, where you are planted feels like ...
